What

Burning Man is a unique art festival where freedom, personal responsibility, survival, creativity, and community are expressed simultaneously in what has been called "The New American Holiday". Held in the remote Nevada dessert over Labor Day, Burning Man draws over 12,000 people who share their artistic vision through theme based camps, costumes, architecture, original artworks, invented games and public pastimes, music and performances. Burning Man also has an astounding population of Netizens who are using the Internet to communicate, collaborate, express their art, and are active participants in the building of cyberspace.

The central tenet of Burning Man is "No Spectating", visitors themselves are the attraction. The motto "Leave no Trace" bespeaks each persons responsibility for returning their environment to it's original condition upon departure.

The spirit and vision of Burning Man is no longer confined to Labor Day or the Nevada dessert. June 6th in the Texas hill country outside of Austin, on a private campground, participants will construct their own temporary community and share their own artistic expressions. This is a clothing optional event.

Activities planned include:

  • Sprinkler fun
  • Open Mike on the stage
  • Nebulous Entity Headress Creation
  • Free-form painting
  • Drumming (bring your drum)
  • Body Painting

As there is a Burning Ban currently in effect, we will not be able the have a bonfire. However, we'll just make up for it with other art.

Where

Recreation Plantation

The private campground is about 45 acres. The upper part has trees and fields and nice areas for camping. There are toilets and running water and showers, though it is still reasonably primative. Towards Onion creek (which you can swim in) is a large field, probably 7-8 acres. There is a large fire cicle created by rocks, probably 15ft in diameter. There is also a wooden stage with power. The campground itself is very secluded so we don't have to worry about bothering anyone or anyone bothering us.
